How Urban Planning Studies Work in Egypt
Students receive comprehensive scientific courses and practical training covering:

Departments at Cairo University's Faculty of Regional and Urban Planning
Cairo University's faculty is the first destination for Arab international students and includes 4 departments:
Regional Development Department
Studies concepts of regional development and the role of regional planning at various planning levels for urban, rural and desert areas. Covers planning issues at city region, sector and planning region levels, and urban geography and population with their planning implications.
Urban Planning Department
Studies all aspects of urban planning, understanding variables affecting urbanization, developing awareness of intellectual evolution and concepts in legislation and administration, acquiring urban and rural social description skills, and preparing detailed plans for urban, rural and new areas.
Urban Design Department
Helps students analyse and design sites and urban projects for tourist, desert and protected areas, acquire skills in designing and coordinating open areas (parks and recreational spaces), and treat deteriorating urban environments with detailed visual and urban coordination studies.
Environmental Planning and Infrastructure Department
Students learn foundations of transportation, road and traffic network planning, water supply and sewage planning, electricity and telecommunications network planning systems, and all infrastructure works.
Duration of Study
- Bachelor's: 5 years (10 semesters) — 4 preparatory + 3 core + 3 specialization semesters
- Postgraduate (Master's/PhD): minimum 2 years up to 5 years depending on thesis completion
Fees 2026
- Registration (once): $1,500 USD
- Annual undergraduate: $5,000 USD
- Annual postgraduate: $6,000 USD
Admission Requirements
- Non-Egyptian nationality, valid passport
- Secondary school or equivalent for bachelor's
- Bachelor's with acceptable grade from accredited university for Master's
- Master's for PhD
- TOEFL or IELTS for postgraduate
- Embassy approval from student's country
- Submit documents May–December
